Gubidj Yarra

Gubidj Yarra (white ochre and gum tree sticks) emerged during my artist residency at Carss Park in 2020, likewise led to Ngurra Bayali (Country Speaking), a calling towards a unique reclamation and revival of family storying honouring Gubidj (Granny's father - Jimmy Claypipe), who was a white ochre clay pipe maker.

Gubidj Yarra is an original series of works that have developed over time and continue to echo a highly significant legacy of family material cultures. Intermediating on behalf of Country and ancestors through works titled "Banga Yanada (Moon Cycles) Binding Time" 2022, Grandville Art Centre; "Banga Yanada (Making Moon Cycles)" 2022, Blue Mountains Cultural Centre; "Ngaliya (Relationality)" 2023, Bawaka Exhibition, Newcastle University; "Ngaliya Manga (Lightning Relationality)" 2026, Articulate project Space and "Ngaliya Muru (Relational Paths) Lighting the Way" 2026, Western Sydney International Airport, signify an inclusive path towards developing my own innovative visual language. An added benefit of my Gubidj Yarra works is an ability to offer a broader scope of cultural narratives and motifs enriching Dharug Homelands Knowledges.
